These days, as well as the previous several months, have returned each of us to our most essential connection…our relationship with ourselves. Spending more time at home, learning new methods of working, and discovering new ways to have fun has brought us all closer together and to a better understanding of who we are at our core.
For me, I’ve been easing into this connection over the last several years. I was seldom alone with my thoughts as an extroverted introvert who spent the first 22+ years of my work in an open office, built my career on being a strong public speaker, manager, and connection builder. Moving to self-employment, working from home, and having the quietest schedule and space I’d experienced in years pushed me to learn more about the connection I’d ignored in previous years: my relationship with myself.
I’ve learnt new things about how I work best, how I live best, and what activities I like doing just because I enjoy the process of doing them over the last several years. After doing this work to find out who I am and what makes me the greatest me I can be, I am a psychologically and physically better person.
Below are some of my greatest suggestions for discovering your own path, which will enable you to create the life you want while still enjoying your own company.
Make a timetable that corresponds to your energy level.
We all know if we are natural night owls or early birds. What time of day do you feel most productive, engaged, and alive? What are the activities you need to do on a daily basis to stay in touch with your flow, pleasure, and purpose? To make connections with others around you?

I need dedicated time for free creation (not for work), time with my kid, uninterrupted work time, and regular movement for myself. I created a calendar that works for this, most days, via trial and error, and I now organize my schedule in this manner on a regular basis.
I’ve also found that as an introvert, I need a peaceful start to my day. This revelation has turned me from a night owl to an early bird, allowing me to start my day with some peaceful time to create.
Find a pastime or a project that you are passionate about.
When you ask most people what they like doing, they will most likely say work, working out, reading, spending time with family, and perhaps traveling. Underwhelming and predictable.
Having a hobby, or PLAY as we used to call it when we were kids, is very beneficial to both physical and mental health. It improves pleasure, enhances flow, and strengthens bonds. Take a look at your social media habits if you’re not sure where to begin. Do you have a lot of florists or cooks following you on Instagram? Always creating new Spotify playlists to share? Begin where your passions already lie.
If you still need more reason to take up a guitar, pick up a camera, or start writing that book you’ve always wanted to write, consider this: having a hobby has been shown to enhance your job performance, improve your physical health, and decrease stress. So, let’s get started! Make an attempt at something new. Your mind, body, and loved ones will reward you.
Keep a diary.
Writing is a wonderful method to go a little further into self-discovery if for no other reason than to connect with yourself. Journaling is a wonderful method to connect more deeply to your pleasures, gratitudes, and concerns, whether it’s via daily morning pages, inspired writing, or writing for stress relief. It will assist you in being more at ease in your own skin, improving your sense of connection, awareness, and capacity to really know yourself on a deeper level.
These changes and activities may help you develop a better connection with yourself, giving you peace and pleasure throughout your days and lives. And it’s something we could all do with a little more of in the days ahead.
